Ultimate Simplicity and Efficiency

Ultimately this book is about how to be conscious. For me that means being able to use our mind to think about the things we’d like to do and then putting our awareness into doing by sensing what we are doing and what is going on around us so that we can respond to what we sense based on the idea of what we are trying to do.
Currently my job is that of teaching yoga but prior to that I’ve been an engineer, a dishwasher, a cook, an artist and I was also in the British army for five years where I learned to fix guns and make instant coffee. (Although I tried my best not to make coffee well I was made to do it so I could do it well. Then once I could make coffee well I could continue to make it...).
Outside of the various professions I’ve been a part of I also am learning Chinese but before that I was learning to paint Chinese characters. I like to dabble with spreadsheets, and I’ve been a Speedskater. Those two things hardly seem related but part of what I’ve tried to do in this book is distill the essence of all of these activities, the basics that underlay learning to do them as well as learning to do them well. For myself the reason I’ve done this is to make my life more efficient. Instead of figuring out how to learn or what to learn it’s more about getting on with learning. And instead of figuring out what to do or how to go about doing it, seeing what needs to be done in the shortest time possible so we can get on with doing. But this book isn’t just about doing. The same mindset that goes into doing and learning can also be used to enjoy the life that goes on around us. I believe it is the same mindset that helps artists to see clearly so that they can paint what they see or what they would like us to see. It is the same thing that allows engineers and designers to create and design new things. It is the same thing that breathes life into all that is around us. It is the same things that can be used to solve problems and understand them.
Imagine knowing a simple set of principles that can be used in any circumstances, even in the relationships with the people around us.
